In memoriam...
bassets have an average lifespan of 10 years, several of ours have gone on
to "doggie heaven." |

Benny von Hasenfreund was born on November 12, 1996, passed away from cancer on October 30, 2006. Blind from glaucoma for two years before his passing, he got around so well that on meeting him for the first time, people insisted that he must have some partial sight. Besides being able to find his way around the yard by scent rather than sight, his greatest talent was the ability to say "I want one." He loved being a lap dog, getting belly rubs and chasing, but not catching, bunnies. |
Sadie was born in 1996. We adopted her through Basset Rescue. She is a very sweet girl who loves to run, play, and bury bones. Her most amazing accomplishment in hre younger years was being able to jump onto the kitchen counter. Sadie passed away in September, 2007. |
Louie was adopted in August, 2000 through San Diego Basset Rescue. He was taller than the average basset, weighed about 90 lbs, and loved to EAT! His favorite activity was to lay on the white couch when he thought no one was looking. Somehow, we knew he'd been there. Louie had a wonderful life with us and though it was short, we are grateful for the time he was here.

Theodore, Ciao Bella, and Leona (top to bottom in photo) Leona and Ciao Bella were mother and daughter - they lived to be 10 and 13 respectively. Bella loved everyone, but if she really, really, liked you, she'd sit on your feet so you couldn't get away. Leona could say "I want one." Theodore was adopted by us when he was 4 years old. He lived to be 10. He weighed about 100 lbs and was shaped like a harbor seal. |
VP was our very first basset and joined us in 1985. He liked to wander down to the docks at Southwestern Yacht Club and eat the fishermens' bait. | Maggie joined us in 1986 and taught us that with bassets, like potato chips, you can't have just one. She was VP's very best friend. |
