In 2001, what we first thought was a crank call turned out to be real - the TV show "Good Morning America" had selected our garden as one of five finalists in its Best Garden in America contest. A quick trip to their New York studio ensued for an appearance on the TV show and to collect the prize - the watering can you see at the left.
Shortly
after, San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles called to say we had been
selected as one of their gardens of the year. We were in their September
2001 and 2003 issues, and in the Spring
Two years
later, Joe's vegetable garden (Ciao Bella's garden)
won garden of the year.
Then the magazines started calling. Our gardens appeared in the July 2002 issue of Garden How To; June 8, 2002 San Diego Union; Spring 2003 on the cover in Garden Ideas and Outdoor Living; Spring 2004 in Garden Shed, Spring 2005 and 2006 in Dream Gardens Across America, September 2005 and March 2007 in Better Homes and Gardens, Spring 2006 in Gardens, Decks and Landscapes, and Spring 2007 in Garden Rooms. In November 2007, my photo of our cutting garden won Honorable Mention in Garden How To's photo contest.
Our garden also appears our garden on pp. 22, 37, 210, 302 and 305
of the Better Homes & Gardens New Garden Book. Coming soon. In April 2007, a crew from Fine Living Television Network filmed our garden for a segment of a show called Splurge! which is scheduled to air in 2009. |
